CITY
OF DALLAS
OFFICE
OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS
The
mission of the Office of Cultural Affairs (OCA) is to provide equitable
funding and management assistance to artists and cultural organizations
through several funding programs. The budget for this program comes
from the City's general fund budget as approved by the Dallas City
Council.
Through
guidance from the Cultural Affairs Commission, the OCA also seeks
to enhance the aesthetic presence of the city through its growing
Public Art Program. The Office of Cultural Affairs also oversees
management and programming of all city-owned cultural facilities
helping provide the public with a broad range of accessible cultural
and arts programming.
The
Office of Cultural Affairs has initiated several significant partnerships
that help stimulate a healthy cultural system: ARTSPartners established
a relationship between the City of Dallas, the Dallas Public School
System and cultural organizations to provide comprehensive arts
experiences to Dallas school children; The Cultural Tourism Initiative
partners with the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau to help
market the arts; and Festival Dallas helps coordinate all the cultural
celebrations held in the city at various outdoor cultural facilities
and performance spaces.
The
Office of Cultural Affairs receives funding support from the Texas
Commission on the Arts and from the National Endowment for the Arts
to provide additional funding support to Dallas based organizations.
